The First Workshop on Case Studies in Bayesian Statistics and Machine Learning will take place on October 14--15th, 2011 at Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh, PA. The Workshop will focus on applications of Bayesian statistics and Machine Learning to problems in science and technology. In conjunction with the workshop, the Department of Statistics' Twelfth Morris H. DeGroot memorial lecture will be delivered by Professor Daphne Koller, Stanford University.

As in the past, partial financial support will be available for junior researchers and graduate students, thanks to financial support from the National Science Foundation and the National Cancer Institute.

The organizing committee is happy to announce the four invited case studies and speakers:

  • Guilt by Association: Finding Cosmic Ray Sources Using Hierarchical Bayesian Clustering. Speakers: David Ruppert and Thomas Loredo
  • Automated Analysis of Quantitiatve Image Data Using Isomorphic Functional Mixed Models with Application to Proteomics Data. Speakers: Jeffrey S. Morris and Howard B. Gutstein
  • Bayesian Model Selection and Dynamic Causal Modelling. Speakers: Maria Joao and Rosalyn Moran
  • Advances in Hierarchical Spatial Models for Mapping Forest Attributes Across Large Domains. Speakers: Sudipto Banerjee and Andrew O. Finley

Abstracts for the four invited talks will soon be available on the workshop website.

We now announce a final call for abstracts for the contributed poster session. Abstracts for this track should be no more than 1 page in length. The deadline has been extended to September 15th, 2011. Submitted abstracts should emphasize the scientific problems and how the statistical work solves the problems.
